Bilpudi BRS College Launches Beekeeping Training: Employment Opportunities for 60 Students [Skill Development]

Beekeeping Training Begins at Bilpudi BRS College A major skill-development initiative aimed at empowering rural youth has been launched at BRS College, a Forest Service College located in Bilpudi village of Dharampur taluka in Valsad district. Affiliated with Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat, and managed by Gram Seva Sabha Dharampur, the college has intensified its focus on providing students not only with academic knowledge but also with practical, employment-oriented skills to help them become self-reliant.

At this educational campus, students are already being offered various job-oriented training programs with NCVET-recognized certificates through Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Ambheti. Continuing this mission, the college formally inaugurated a “Beekeeping Training Program” on January 6, 2026. The primary objective of this program is to equip young people from rural and tribal areas with practical skills in beekeeping, enabling them to create sustainable livelihood opportunities and explore self-employment in the agriculture and horticulture sectors.

The inauguration ceremony was held in a positive and enthusiastic atmosphere. The chief guest for the event was Rinalbhai Ahir, Director of Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Ambheti. While addressing the students, he emphasized that in today’s competitive environment, merely obtaining a degree is no longer sufficient. He highlighted the importance of having practical skills alongside formal education. Rinalbhai Ahir explained in detail the economic potential of beekeeping and also spoke about its environmental benefits, motivating students to seriously consider it as a viable profession.

Several key dignitaries were present during the launch of the training program. Among them were In-charge Principal of the college, Gamit Komalben, and expert master trainers in beekeeping, Pradipbhai Vasava and Manilalbhai Vaghera. These master trainers will provide hands-on training to students, covering critical aspects such as different species of honeybees, scientific methods of honey collection, maintenance of beehives, and marketing strategies for honey and related products. Field Coordinator Mikhilbhai Jadav and his team were also present to guide and support the trainees throughout the program.

Approximately 60 talented students studying at Bilpudi BRS College are participating in this beekeeping training. These students have previously benefited from various modern skill-based programs such as food processing, CCC computer courses, and mushroom cultivation training. With the addition of beekeeping training, students are now being exposed to another promising sector that holds strong potential in agriculture and allied fields. At the start of the training, all participants were encouraged with essential study materials, including notebooks and pens, provided by the institution.

Beekeeping is widely regarded as a low-investment and high-return business, making it particularly suitable for rural and forest-rich regions like Dharampur. The surrounding natural environment, rich in biodiversity and flowering plants, offers excellent conditions for honey production. Recognizing this potential, the entire planning and coordination of the beekeeping training program has been carried out under the guidance of Professor Gamit Pratibhaben from the horticulture department.

The inauguration program was smoothly conducted by TY BRS student Patel Bhoomit, who managed the event with confidence and discipline. Students attending the program expressed strong enthusiasm and curiosity, showing keen interest in learning the technical and practical aspects of beekeeping. Many students shared that such training programs give them confidence that they can start their own ventures immediately after completing their studies.

This kind of skill-enhancement training is expected to play a crucial role in improving employment prospects for students once they complete their education. With government initiatives promoting entrepreneurship and self-employment under the vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat,” the step taken by Bilpudi BRS College is being seen as both timely and impactful. By gaining certified skills in beekeeping, students will be better positioned to access government schemes, financial assistance, and loans for starting their own businesses.

During the training period, students will be taught scientific techniques such as proper placement and maintenance of beehive boxes, identification and management of queen bees, disease control in bee colonies, and hygienic honey extraction methods. The program will also focus on value addition and marketing, helping students understand how to sell honey and by-products effectively in local and regional markets.

At the end of the training program, students will be awarded government-recognized certificates. These certificates are expected to prove beneficial not only for self-employment but also for securing jobs or financial support from various schemes. Educators believe that such certifications enhance the credibility of students and open doors to multiple livelihood opportunities.

The launch of the beekeeping training program at Bilpudi BRS College has been widely appreciated as a forward-looking educational initiative. By combining academic learning with practical vocational training, the college is contributing to the creation of a skilled and self-reliant youth population. It is expected that in the coming years, students trained under this program will actively contribute to honey production, rural entrepreneurship, and the strengthening of the local economy.
